Ten years of experience as a translator
At the beginning of 2006, I successfully completed my studies at the University of Leipzig as a graduate translator for English and French. Since then I have been working as a freelance translator for companies and as an editor for the translation journal Lebende Sprachen. For this purpose, I proofread manuscripts, coordinate changes with the authors and plan the layout of the issue.
Areas of expertise
Software and software localization, user interfaces, web content for large IT companies. My specialty is quality assurance for larger projects. I love to monitor large projects involving many translators and, for example, to ensure that the terminology is consistent.
Tools
I like technology and the fact that automatic translation is constantly improving. Translation memories (TM) and Neural Machine Translation nowadays are an integral part of the translator’s everyday life. They make our work much easier, especially for texts with recurring content. They also help to translate consistently. In some text types, certain structures such as “Click OK to open the xxx window” appear again and again. With the help of TMs, this can always be translated consistently and automatically. I prefer to work with the TM systems SDLX (which I am also certified for), TagEditor and Studio from SDL Trados.
Experience abroad
I spent two semesters of my studies abroad – one at the Institut libre Marie Haps in Brussels and another one at the University of Leeds in Northern England.
Certified ranslations for courts and authorities
I am a sworn translator for the English and German language, duly commissioned by and sworn to the courts in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. This allows me to officially confirm the accuracy and completeness of my translations by means of a “certification”. This is what you need, for example, when translating foreign language school certificates, certificates of conduct, diplomas, birth, marriage and death certificates, driver’s licenses, accident reports/police records, etc., which are to be used in legal disputes or for submission to the authorities.
Solid training + professionalism = high quality translations
Thanks to this solid professional training, I offer translation services at the highest quality. When translating difficult issues, I usually consult with experts working in my areas of expertise. They are able to provide expert advice – and support me in order to provide perfect translations.
Professional associations
I am a member of the Bundesverband der Dolmetscher und Übersetzer e. V. (German Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators, BDÜ) and the American Translators Association (ATA).
